Pacific Wave dispensary in Lincoln City Oregon community-focused business

Pacific Wave dispensary in Lincoln City Oregon community-focused business

Intro

This family-owned business was established with strong values for community, being a good neighbor, and embracing coastal living. The owners were modern pioneers of their time here on the coast, as they were the first medical marijuana dispensary to open for business in Lincoln City in May 2012.

Now, nearly 12 years later, Pacific Wave has become deeply rooted among many locals—not only because of the products they sell, but more importantly, for the experience individuals have when they visit.

In a nutshell, these are the words and phrases you hear when asking people about Pacific Wave: friendly, knowledgeable, authentic, customer-focused pricing and products, and a place where they get to know your name—only if you want them to!

The “Why” That Drives Pacific Wave

Q: When asked about their “why” (what motivated and still motivates them):

A: The family-owned company started with this basic concept and holds strong to it to this day: helping people. Our #1 drive is to help people. That hasn’t changed, nor will it ever. At the end of the day, the thing that keeps the passion and drive alive is helping people—even if it is just one person. That was the game plan and concept 12 years ago, and it still is today. That’s what keeps us Pacific Wave. If you can help at least one person, it’s a good day.

Fun fact: Pacific Wave has helped many local cancer patients into remission.

Advice for Following Your Dream

Q: What would you say to someone wanting to bring their dream alive or attempt something not mainstream?

A: Advice for someone trying to follow a dream… Some days that dream may feel like a nightmare. Stick to what you know and what you want, and the success and dreams will come true.

Pacific Wave as a Community Hub

(Editor’s Note)
From growing up in a small farming town, our local café or bar was the “verbal community newspaper.” Anyone who has had this experience may relate to how I describe Pacific Wave—just in a different venue and industry.

In small communities, you grew up with the knowledge that most weekdays around mid-morning, after the chores were done, local farmers and ranchers would head into town. They’d pick up supplies, drop off mail, and stop at a local establishment that happened to be open. Before long, everyone would gather there.

If it was the bar open that day, it was typically too early for alcohol, but never too early to visit with neighbors. People would stop in for a cup of coffee and catch up with one another. Each person’s time there varied, depending on their tasks for the day.

They would discuss local events, news, and sports, check in on neighbors who might need a hand, or share information about who had a certain part or skill to help solve a problem. That sense of connection and exchange is exactly what Pacific Wave represents today—just in a modern coastal context.

Challenges and Resilience in the Industry

Q: What have been some of the challenges Pacific Wave has faced to maintain core business values while working within governing authorities and regulations?

A: Being what some call a “pillar” in the marijuana industry, I’d say the state’s approach has been all over the board. I’m not sure regulators saw it becoming as big of an industry as it is. This creates challenges: the state is constantly changing rules to see what fits best, and dispensaries are then challenged to supply customers with products that meet those rules. That ultimately leads to the question of what fits everyone’s budget.

At Pacific Wave, we understand personally—from growing up on the coast and living here—that we all deal with the cost of fuel, monthly expenses, emergencies, inflation, and more. That’s why supplying our community with quality products at fair prices is a must, while keeping products local and supporting other local businesses whenever possible.
